Need to Unwind?

Sarah | FEB 23

Starting this week and through the end of March, we’ll begin a gentle unwinding focus as spring slowly approaches and we begin to awaken alongside the world around us.

Even though it’s still winter, there’s a subtle shift happening if you look. A little more light, a little more energy, a quiet invitation to soften what we’ve been holding onto this season.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll move intentionally to release tension (especially in the shoulders, hips, and back) and create space in the body. Nothing rushed. Nothing complicated. Just steady breath and simple, supportive movement.

If your body has been feeling tight or your mind has been busy, this is for YOU.

🌿 This Week’s Yogi Inspiration

Last weekend for Valentine’s Day, my husband and I had what we like to call a “no-plan plan” day. We visited our favorite coffee shop, stopped by the library, saw a movie, and even popped into a little thrift store.

As usual, we drifted toward the books first. I wandered over to the children’s section, looking for a few favorites to add to my collection and share with the littles in my life.

And then it happened.

I spotted the tiniest little spine that read Whales and Dolphins.

I can’t tell you how loud I must have gasped, but I immediately started crying.

Now, I may not strike you as someone who would cry over whales and dolphins… but this was one of my favorite books as a child (a close tie with my world atlas). Somewhere along the way, through many moves, it had been lost.

When I opened it, it was as if I were sitting on the floor of my childhood bedroom at seven years old, reading over and over about the different species and getting slightly grossed out by barnacles.

We often talk about how smells or songs can transport us back in time, but the visual of this book shocked me. It was instant. I felt so connected to that younger version of myself.

Of course, I bought it immediately. And I hope to keep it forever.

In yoga philosophy, there’s a concept called svadhyaya, or self-study. It’s the practice of remembering who we are beneath the layers, beneath the responsibilities, the stress, and the busyness of adult life.

Sometimes self-study isn’t about analyzing ourselves.

Sometimes it’s about reconnecting with something simple that once made us light up.

That little book reminded me that parts of us never really disappear. They just wait patiently to be rediscovered.

As we begin this unwinding season together, maybe part of the practice is not only releasing physical tension, but remembering something steady and true within ourselves.

What parts of you are waiting to be remembered?

This week’s photo is of the Whales and Dolphins book that made me cry… and a sweet snapshot of me and my Valentine 🤍

Grateful for this little community.

Hope to see you soon,
